'Following hot on the heels of their debut 'Mission', Layers of Sound bust right back with another barnstorming funky houser, aided and abetted by The Demetrios Project and vocalist Bilonda Mfunyi-Tshiabu.
The original vocal and dub mixes take care of business on a thumping, hook-laiden tip, filtering the hell out of some emphatic keys - perfect fodder for sunset raving. The obligatory electro remix comes from Jackindabox who dish up chopped guitars and a stabbing b-line that should come with a public health warning such is its potential to wamp, whilst those of you after something a little more sedate should head for the U-ness Midnight Dub which irons out all the creases and reclines on a deep, echoey groove.'

'Thanking You reviewed by Blues & Soul magazine - "The follow up to ‘Mission, ‘Thanking You’ is another key-driven, vocal slice of well-crafted dancefloor action, which is already starting to buzz. Summery, and with a nice vocal, the standout mixes are the vocal and midnight dubs but there’s a full vocal and electro mix for different floors. With Ministry already a fan, watch this one develop'
'Layers of Sound & The Demetrios Project prove that they are no one-trick-pony, by cleverly recruiting the talents of singer Bilonda Mfunyi-Tshiabu for "Thanking You", their second single. Playful piano & loopy vocals ensure the track gets off to a spirited start. Bilonda's clear, powerful, yet graceful singing style & a catchy chorus, coupled with trademark stylish production, ensure the tune resonates long after it has finished! Included on here too are edgier, dirtier sounds for electro fans and my favourite, some more chilled out, almost Balearic, sounds, with a more soulful feel. Second single, another winner. When's the album?'

Thanking You - "Layers of sound aka Mike Newstead is a producer to look out for as he’s making big waves with hot productions like this..! “Thanking You” is a chunky soulful track with a tasty melody that launches a very strong lead vocal, it’s full to the brim with all types of keys, stabs, strings and bass to pump the groove. Mike’s done a very detailed job of this production and should be receiving loads of support after this. Top track!"
Mission - Layers of Sound & The Demetrios Project - "Well produced, strong song, good quality vocals and real commercial 'Hed Kandi' potential".
Nocturnal Magazine have selected Mission at number 35 in their top 50 chart. "Funky house for those Hed Kandi fans out there. The Dub and Electro Dub versions capture the strong points of the singing and fuse it with a groovy instrumental"

Mission reviewed by Shazam Magazine - "Putting the fun back into dance music, this new debut track from the Layers Of Sound Recordings label based here in London will hopefully take off in time for summer Ibiza season. Strong on melody, with uplifting beats and loops and an excellent vocal (lead and backing) along with tip-top production it will certainly get you from the bar to the dance floor. It gracefully fills that musical niche of being a sundowner and sun-rising record. Looking forward to hearing the other mixes. Well done guys...more like this please!!"
One Week To Live Magazine's review of Mission - "Purest funky house here from Layers of Sound (aka Mike Newstead) and singer songwriter Demetrios who, alongside vocalists Helene Diamond and Bilonda Mfunyi-Tshiabu, have crafted a very workable bass line-led groove propelled by a thumping four-on-the-floor and a hooky vocal. The original vocal and dub mixes work that bass line in to an inch of its life and filter the vocals half to death, surely ensuring that Hed Kandi and chums will soon coming knocking at the door. The pick of the mixes is the Electro dub mix, which will put hands in the air. Ministry of Sound certainly think so - they signed it to their new 'Housexy International' compilation"
Mission reviewed by Faize Music Magazine - 'Layers of Sound are looking to make a mark in 2007 here we have a great uplifting track with belting vocals by Demetrios coupled with the very groovy and tight production talents of Mike Newstead.. This is the kind of music we like, full of positive vibes and ripe for the dance floor. Major support from many big names and rightly so'

"Layers Of Sound debuts on Double Shock with this ultra-funky bomb. The original mix has already gained accolades from a diverse range of DJs including Michael Gray, Audiowhores, Olav Basoski, Jamie Lewis, DJ Prom, & Juke Joint amongst others".
"A very talented up and coming producer/dj.  He goes for funky, vocally house sets. He seems to have found the sounds that suits him best, because his djing skills, and track quality are both top notch to us". More...
For the track And There She Was Just Dancing - "Mike has come up with a polished funky house effort with plenty of movement and freshness to it's sound. Although they are often tricky to get right, the vocoded vocal actually works really nicely here. We reckon the arrangement and layout of the track is really good".
"This Classic House mix from Mike Newstead's Layers of Sound project has all the right ingredients to go down well on the dance floor of any super club. The typical kick, snare and shuffled-hat house drums, a mesmeric vocoder chant, one or two filtering moments and the obligatory drops...you know the score. We hear this sort of thing a hundred times a month in the cm office yet there's rarely anything that could stand up in its own right. This, however, might well be an exception to the rule.

Like all best pop songs, Music Got Me Through This works around three chords nailed by an excellent legato bass that's fat, warm, wide and deep. The 'warm' theme is carried through into the keyboard sounds with their slow filter attack, and a sweet seductive vocoder sound."

"Deep techy house music from the London town of Highbury. The production is tight and the track progression is equally good. With more time spent, this guy could be banging tracks out left and right!". Go to LOS on Radio One.

The track And there she was just dancing was reviewed by a panel of music industry experts at the National Music Network Demo City night, at the Cargo club, Shoreditch. London.

Matt Fernand - "Sounds really good, ready to go....get in with some DJ's who can play it out in clubs."

Julian Standen - "From producer to producer, I'd give that 10 out of 10 for production."

Jay Greenwood - "I really liked that, it started off quite Balearic and then really kicked off with that driving bass line....you should try pressing it onto vinyl and experimenting with mixing it in and out with other tracks."

"Mike has been featured a number of times both in FM and our sister magazine CM and this entry is of the high standard that we've come to expect. Da Beach is driven by some great drums and bass and the filtered vocal is also a really nice touch."

"What an Intro! One of the best we've ever heard. Very good effort"

"This track (California) has a great groove that moves along nicely. The rough bass is perfectly complemented by the understated drum track, and  the feel is pleasing."

"This is really well produced, you can't fault Mike's knowledge when it comes to using what he has to make his music. If it had to be pigeon holed, we'd put it in the breaks category. As for feedback, it's technically very good, so just keep at it."

"Good stuff this. Sounds like breakbeat Vangelis".

"Impressive drum'n'bass and big beat".
