Layers of Sound, a.k.a. Mike Newstead, is an up-and-coming House producer and DJ starting to make a name for himself on the London scene for his original productions and a string of DJ residencies and guest appearances including: Turnmills, Epicurean Lounge, Kinky Mambo, Millennium, Matt & Matt, Progress, Lush et al. Having spent the past few years focusing on the funkier side of House music, Mike has collaborated with a number of musicians and vocalists, always retaining his distinctively rich melodic layered sound. Commercial releases have also been coming hard and fast over the past 2 years and labels include: Rapid Reaction Records, Queep Organic House, Lowered Recordings, Refunkt Records, Doubleshock Recordings, Soulheat Records, Mettle Music and most recently Ministry of Sound. Hand in hand with the production work, Mike DJs and promotes under the same Layers of Sound name. Starting his own club nights in London, It Takes Two and Lascivious, he also makes regular guest appearances with DJ collective Brighton Rocks! Mike's latest project is Layers of Sound Recordings, a new digital House record label, which has just seen it's first two releases, 'Mission' & 'Thanking You' both by Layers of Sound & The Demetrios project featured on Ministry of Sound Housexy compilations. |

Mike has played at various venues in and around North London playing funky chunky house from bar chill to floor fill. A seamless blend of the hottest new tunes, classic tracks mixed with his original productions (Turnmills, Kinky Mambo, Matt & Matt, The Millennium Club, The Progress Bar, Lush, The Long Island Iced Tea Rooms & The Old Parr’s head). Promotion of a brand new funky house night, Lascivious @ The Epicurean Lounge, Farringdon, London, has saw it's opening night (Dec 3rd). |

 Mike has teamed up with funky bass guitarist, Scouse Phil, and vocalist Melissa D on a number of funky house productions, including the released "Thinking of You", on Queep Organic House Records. Recently a collaboration with Demetrios from the Demetrios project has kicked off, and has already produced soon to be released tunes, such as Mission, Rain & Gotta Get Something. Many more great tunes can be expected very soon. Long time collaborator, Alex Hoskin, a.k.a. Nervous Rex, helped start the Layers of Sound ball rolling during jamming sessions in the summer of 97. From this point on, the LOS dream was born. Recently Layers of Sound and Nervous Rex reunited to collaborate on a remix of La Dolche Vita by David Holmes. |
